James Lee
James Lee is one of the pioneers of digital filmmaking in Malaysia. Having produced, directed, or worked as cinematographer to than 35 films within a period of just 9 years, he is perhaps also the most hardworking Malaysian filmmaker today. Known for his quirky art house sensibilities, his digital films have been regular features at regional film festivals in recent years. His most renowned work to date is ‘My Beautiful Washing Machine’, which won the Best Asean Film Award and the FIPRESCI Prize at the Bangkok International Film Festival in 2005. His first commercial feature film ‘Hysteria’ was a commercial hit in Malaysia in 2009. His latest digital feature ‘Call If You Need Me’ won the Silver Prize in the digital film category in the 2009 Hong Kong International Film Festival. When not making feature films, James directs TV dramas for a living. He is currently working towards making an action-thriller feature film for commercial release in 2010.
