There was a strong message delivered via the play. I wouldn’t have thought about it till i read the posts. Very simple yet subtle. Indeed, over the decades, our judgment tend to be clouded by racial differences when it comes to making decisions. It may be obvious that our cultures shape our views and perceptions on certain things. Nonetheless, we should know that the basic and fundamental norms established in a particular society such as courtesy would reduce the gap between races.

the message is that each race is blinded by prejudices passed on by the previous generations as elaborated by statements made by the mother in the clip. if the races are allowed to freely interact, as shown by the brief exchanges between the boy and the girl, there will be attraction. the fact that the girl is purposesly garbed in a tudung with the chinese boy topless, reflects the typical stereotyping of the races in Malaysia.

it is when reminded by our prejudices, the relationship gets strained.

tis short film has fully show out how malaysian live! the racism problem existed for so long, nt juz chinese, bt every other races in malaysia! the cause of this problem is due to the politician of our country! to me they are all selfish! they intended to create tis conflict, juz becoz they wan to win the election! they use the” Hak Istimewa Bumiputera” to win the major race’s vote! they thk they can continue to use the same tactic everytime! eventually ppl will wake up n understand, it doesn’t matter who hv the” Hak Istimewa”, it’s matter the country achive its economic, peace, eduction n others’ goal! hw long it hv to take to wake up malaysian?! it depend how ppl thought!
P.S: i love malaysia! bt i don’t like the Politician, or any Party! they are juz selfish!

may have said this doesn’t make sense. watch it again. we all go through the same insecurities, when others use an excuse for us not to be around, and it hurts especially when its our parents who say so. the ones we completely trust by nature. and our views are shaped by what the people we respect and love tell us – it’s just too difficult to admit they can be wrong, that they are fallible too. so we listen, and we act accordingly, and treat other races different, although deep inside we feel otherwise. That is my take on chocolate. it boils down to this – we should make our own decisions, our own choices, our own opinions, as long as we follow what is truly in our hearts

这部短片只有区区两分钟多，前半部的内容浅白易懂，主要讲述大马华人的困境。问题是后半部充斥着大量的“隐讳”，难怪会有人大呼看不懂。

每一句话、每一个动作、每一样道具，都可以叫人起疑问：为什么剧本有这样的安排，而不是那样的安排呢？到底Yasmin的“电影语言”要表达些什么呢？

Chocolate本身就可以被诠释为“种族交融”，不同颜色的牛奶和可可结合而成。男主角原本抓在手里的坚持，后来因为外来的干涉而被迫放下，丢在桌子上。

戏中的母亲代表着华人社会的看法，以至对“马来婆”的偏见。她在两个种族之间的干涉作梗，导致埋怨不满的情绪，甚至于火暴的冲突场面呢。

两个不同个体之间的单纯互动交往，最后也因为金钱或利益的缘故而告吹，这不也反映出人类社会最基本的常态吗？讲利益，伤感情！

最叫人喷饭的一幕是男主角拿出奶瓶来。奶瓶是否讽刺马来族群还未“断奶”呢？这种种的诠释与猜测，恐怕都会随着Yasmin的离去，而无法得到完全解答。

Racism and religiousity are really killing Malaysia!

Can’t equal rights be given to all human in Malaysia? When deciding on scholarships, university enrolment, company directorship, or even marriage matters, ALL should be treated equal based on ability and compatibility and not on race/religion.

Throughout all these years, these Tanah “Melayu” thing has been so widely talked about, but the outcome is still the same. Still there are so many people mis-educated and so mis-treated, in all areas of Politics, Business, Education, Arts and Media… Leaders are still debating the topic, citizens are still avoiding contacts, the Media keeps screening all information… COME ON, grow up!!!!!

Come on, today it’s the 21st Century, a century of Globalisation and some are still having backward mentalities…. Can’t everyone just treat others as fellow human beings, starting from the leaders? ……….

Vote the Racists out of the government, for all’s sake……. for your future’s sake….. Who are the racists? Open your eyes to watch the news and hear their comments, you’ll spot them, so obviously….

Abram, come on la, the Potong Saga was not meant to touch on religious grounds. It just shows that some don’t know what WE know well. SO that tells us (IMHO) that we need to educate other ppl/races/cultures about our culture so that it’s not misunderstood. Because what scares them, can actually be something good, if they understand it well. IMHO =p

removing the ‘race’ the application form will not help at all, if we want to change our perception. We should do it on our younger and future generation. This is what the film about….

i feel chinese fall in love with malay is ok, but only a thing i cannot accept why ppl fall in love with malay or muslim must covert also their religion to muslim. that is why we always worries my kids fall in love with malay.
